Getting back to Dreamcast in 2016

Post by RXShorty »

Hello all,

Also posted this on DCS but I am not sure if it is still active so after searching I found this forum.

I own my Dreamcast from 2000.
Played a lot on it when it was still activily supported.

Created a ok Dreamcast collection and want to play on it from time to time.
First step to the modern age was from 50 hz to a 60 hz tv

Years late I wanted to play on a HD Ready tv, still possible with Scart and Composite.
After that it was a 42inch Full HD tv and Scart and Composite looks terrible.
So my brother gave a VGA box.
Games looked some much better, I was a happy Dreamcast gamer again.

Now in 2016 I have a new tv... 4K and such... but wait... no VGA?!
I am not going back to composite so after doing some youtubing I found out that a VGA to HDMI converter should do the trick.

So I orded a Aten VC182.
Still waiting on it to arrive.
Together with this VGA 2 HDMI box I Controller caps for the PS4 hoping they will fit on the Dreamcast Controller :)

Also I am waiting for the USB mod so the Dreamcast dream can continue in 2016.

Together with the BBA and PSO Private servers I am going to enjoy it once more!

What are the things you have done over the years to keep it running?

ps. still didn't find a solution for the lightguns ;)

Welcome to the forum.
I referred you here because we have a relevant technical audience.
DCS is more casual gaming.

Released a new version of my software after 4-6 years, hopefully part two will be ready by the end of the year.

Still want to get a SD Card reader for my DC.

Still have my original DC, with the original box and manuals.

Keeping my eye open at thrift stores for good DC stuff. picked up a cdr capable dc 2 weeks ago for ten bucks.

Thanks for the replies :)

Right now the VC182 doesn't work well with VGA box I own right now (cheap one).
I am able to play for about a minute and the screen turns black and the VC182 sais it has no incomming signal.

So I ordered the Torro VGA box.
Hoping this will do the trick.

Good luck on that. Ive seen some straight cable vga 'boxes' for sale on amazon/ebay/stores but theyve gotten mixed reviews. I still have my old Nyko from 14 years ago and it still works.
