Just what is the best game of all time?
In the current Game Informer, one of the writers names Super Mario Brother 3 as the best game of all time. What do you think is the best game of all time?

It's hard for me to say because I never really gave a crap about the early NES games that "changed the world". Mario 1 was the first game I owned, but I never played it because it was too hard for me at the time (I was like 4 at the time). I played Metroid maybe once. Back in the NES days I spent my time playing games that weren't popular, I'd rent them because the cover would look cool. I really liked Shatterhand, Power Blade 1 and 2, Kirby's Adventure, Totally Rad, Ducktales, etc. I did enjoy Mario 3, but still, I sucked at it so much that I never wanted to play it.
My personal favorite game of all time would either be PSO, FFVII, SM64, Kirby's Adventure, or Sonic 1 or 2.
I understand how Mario 1 had an impact on the gaming industry, but I can't say much for it because I never got around to going back and actually beating it until about 4 or 5 years ago, and it was on GBC.

Tetris.
It requires virtually no hardware.
It's easy to pick up and understand, yet has enough complexity to satisfy more "serious" gamers.
It's a great balance of skill and luck.
It comes out a bit different every time you play it, so you don't lose interest.
It's ideal for both single and multiplayer use.
It can be played for long sessions, or quick bursts, making it ideal for both portable and console play.

But isnt that just nostalgia? As somebody who never owned a NES or SNES when I was a child Ive gone back to the older Mario games since then and while theyve been fun, I heavent found them anything that amazing. However, I bloody love the Genesis Sonic games (which I did play in my childhood).MKE wrote:i would agree with game informer, SMB3 is probably the best game ever. followed by SMB1. it just is truely the best game ever.
I am pretty sure though, if I had got Nintendo systems instead of Sega systems, my opinion today would be the complete opposite...
Im not trying to flame here, just chuck an idea into the mix...

FFVII, DQVIII, SC3, teh Halos, teh MegaMans and teh MegMan Zeros.
Games of adventures, legends, action, quests, and heroes
Many years past I saw the light of day once
But now the Internet has all the games that I want
They'll send them to my house, and put them through the doggy door
Then I can keep on keeping playing more
And I don't have to get out of my chair
Been so long since last I cut my hair
And I don't have to get out of my chair,
And I don't have to get out of my chair...
