Backing up a website without server access

Post by cube_b3 »

I always see people in the Sega community back up a game website and upload it on their own server.
How do they do it?

That looks pretty cool.

Noob question? So all the links which are set to orignalname.com would automatically to the new address?

Depends on the command line options you pass in. It can rewrite links so that local files become the target.

I've been working on getting the groundwork up and running for the rebuild of the DC Evolution website. Now that DCDayDreamer's backup of Curt Grymala's CMS is up and running properly, I'll take a look into backing up DCS. It would definitely be a shame if it were to go down, as there's years of info on that site, including some that's still not available anywhere else.

At the moment I am more concerned with where you have moved all my data, I have emailed you, messaged you on Skype.

Chris had a look at the back end and said his theme is deleted and all the content ALL OF IT is gone.

The theme broke with the update, and reverted to the default (which is why they recommend to make child themes instead of editing the main theme).

The data is still there in the database, it's just that the CMS was giving 500 errors, and the update is too big to upload without FTP access. I managed to find everything on the site in the database though, which is actually excellent news. I e-mailed you with the info. :)

If you need any web development help make a public repo (or private and give me access on bitbucket for example) and I can help out.
