i tried it out with only a few games. i like the speed and i do hear the ticking sound. it seems to have regressed a little in compatibility from gen-pvr3.

these games don't work, or have garbled video.

Altered Beast - doesn't load

Herzog Zwei - sound is broken. garbled gfx, main character disappears in-game. switch to video:SW to correct it, but it is slow. gen-pvr3 played it perfect.

M.U.S.H.A. - doesn't load or i think it froze the emu. worked great in pvr3.

Mortal Kombat - works, but missing gfx. switch to Fame, SW to correct it.

Super Street Fighter II - loads fine for me. gfx are garbled. hung in pvr3.

Gunstar Heroes - loaded, but froze the emu when picking a stage. worked fine in pvr3.

Madden Football - none load up. i think these worked in pvr3, not sure, tho.

i'll try to test more games soon.

Anyone mind creating a self booting image for me? I created 3 coasters trying to use Self Boot inducer, I created a Disc Jugger and a Nero image, burned them successfully, but the CD then after couldn't be read ... I only have 1 CDR remaining ...

:\

You really do need to try all games with either C68K or FAME - there are issues which only occur with one or other of the CPU cores - this release is _definitely_ more compatible than PVR-3!

If it doesn't work well with C68K (Sonic 1 hangs for me using C68K) then switch over to using FAME - and vice-versa. That is one of the reasons for the switch!!

Sound is broken in all Tecnosoft games.

Works with SW IIRC.

Works with FAME :)

Do you mean Strider Returns?We've tested this game, and in the latest build there's no sound, plus Strider is a ghost-nothing can hit (or be hit by) him- what makes it impossible to pass by the first mini boss.It's a problem that happens with other emus for DC.

Those menu issues in FIFA soccer games are fixed if you switch to SoftWare mode.Of course, the game won't run so smooth, but still perfectly playable.

This fixed a lot of problems but I remember somewhere that changing the palette midgame was what was supposed to fix the sonic 3 stage 1-2 water issue. Where the water is supposed to be blue and not transparent like it is. I dont have a problem, but i figure that there is something else missing because this problem in sonic 3 still exists.

That's mid-frame palette shifting. Slightly different thing.

If you remember PVR3, it had the sprite corruption glitch on some games? That was caused by the emulator updating the graphics while the PVR is still using them, resulting in it using graphics from one frame to draw the previous one. That was fixed by double buffering the tile cache. The double buffered palette fixes similar problems with colour palettes, mostly flashes of the wrong colour palette, and the right hand side of the screen sometimes using a different colour palette than the left.

Mid-frame palette shifting requires additional code that's not working yet.

I think the problem is that it actually uses the (relatively useless) sprite collision flag, and AFAICT there is no code anywhere that sets it, only code that clears it. I don't have a toolchain set up so I can't really try it, but someone might want to try this:

Code: Select all

+++ system.c    2006-08-01 06:41:05.000000000 -0600
@@ -161,6 +161,9 @@
     if(im2_flag)
         status ^= 0x0010;

+ /* Set sprite collision flag (Strider Returns) */
+    status |= 0x0020;
+
     /* Point to start of sound buffer */
     snd.dac.lastStage = snd.dac.curStage = 0;

You prolly have one of those bad dumps. I'd be nice if you checked it (I think they're 32Mbit instead of 40)

I've tested all of my roms and only 96 games work with the latest build whereas on preview 3 most all roms did. One of my favorite games M.U.S.H.A. worked but it was a bad rom since it wouldn't go past the sega screen and none of the Phantasy Star games work on mine but do on prev 3. And the weird thing about that is that when I first burned the 240706 version it played some of my other favorites as Air Diver, PS 2, but wouldn't play 3 or 4, M.U.S.H.A. and a few others but wouldn't play them after that first time. And now those same titles don't work on the latest builds, but that's alright since they still play on preview 3. Hopefully the next build will be better compatible with the roms than these latest are. I just don't understand how a rom will work the first time you use it with it then not work again while on previous version(s) they work.
