Quick question about emulating 1 Game only

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Quick question about emulating 1 Game only

Post by Repoman23 »

Im trying to get Magical Drop 2 on my dreamcast.

Do you suggest using:

1) MamedDC

or

2) MDCNG (Neo Geo DC emulator)

Which would run it better?

Try Neo4All, it is said to be much better than both of those emulators.

Does it need the original Neogeo cd or does it play emulators aka roms?

It requires games on CDs just like the original Neo Geo CD hardware.

An alternative would be the rare SuperNES port of Magical Drop 2. Try DreamSNES or SuperFamicast v2

However, Neo4All & NeoDC should both run it like a dream.

thanks guys for your responses so far, i really appreciate them.

Ive tried to run it with the Mame for DC Neogeo. The self boot thing boots up, then it shows the game. When I click to play the game it gives me nothing but a blank screen.

What types of files does NEO4ALL run?

What files? It just runs the neogeo CD's, or were you referring to something else?

I was wondering if it could run the magicdrop2.zip rom, similiar to mame.

I own the Magical Drop 2 arcade itself, but the board stopped working. Don't have any NEOGEO cd's.

So I want to play it on my dreamcast, without the neogeo version cd because I never had that version to begin with.

MDCNG is not exactly bad work, it's just the plain fact that it's really outdated. NeoDC & Neo4All will allow MVS / AES emulation with their next releases. If you really only want to play the ROM that you have, you have to wait for the next NeoDC/Neo4All update and play the game on your PC in the meantime.

I think you could find a Magical Drop 1/2/3 CD at ebay, but if not try to google for alternate online stores.

Thanks again Chris.

Thats great news if these emulators will be able to eventually play the Rom of it.

The reason you can't play Magic drop2 in current neogeo emulators for the DC is that it's too big. if you want to try any of the series i would suggest Magic Drop. Magic Drop 2 MIGHT fit in the next major NeoDC update, but it would be cutting it close. Magic Drop 3, not without major major work.

Didn't the NeoGeoCD emulators only play real CDs?

They do. NeoDC will soon be a multiple machine emulator though, playing both MVS games and CD games.

That sucks that magical drop 2 is too big.

Does that mean its too big to use also with your NEODC emulator which requires the original game cd?

PS., Magical Drop 2 is not on torrent reactor.

No it should play if it's a CD. If it's a rom it would take up too much memory in the Dreamcast.
