This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

New SMS Plus screenshots package release

Post by Captain Skyhawk »

I holded this new release back for a simultaneous release with SMS Plus 2 wich originally had a slideshow feature. It is a real shame, because it looked really neat. Plus I had this much improved pack ready for some months and I dissapointed many people by not releasing it earlier.

The following changes where made, compared to the previous release:

Master System Pack

Code: Select all

- All non titlescreenshots are filtered out
- All PCX files now have the right formats
- Supporting all different versions of rom names: foreign, translated, [A], [b] etc.)
- All PCX files follows the exact names of SMS Checker 0.81
- Now has 451 shots only missing 3 shots
Game Gear Pack

Code: Select all

- All non titlescreenshots are filtered out
- All PCX files now have the right formats
- Supporting all different versions of rom names (foreign, translated, [A], [b] etc.)
- All PCX files follows the exact names of SMS Checker 0.81
- Now has 352 shots, only missing 2 shots
These are now the 2 ultimate packs. Just be sure to rename your roms with SMS Checker 0.81 and place these packs in either SNAPS/SMS or SNAPS/GG and you are guaranteed see a title screenshot in the game selection screen.

Both packs (plus info) can be downloaded from the SMS Plus Knowledge Base located under "tools".

In the future I will release a pack with only in game screenshots. Enjoy, I spended many hours in making them :).

hey, is there going to be an SBI of this any time soon? This is by far the most professional looking emulator for the Dreamcast.

Depends on the game.

Some games will only use the FM chip if they detect it. These games will work no matter what the region. Other games will only use the FM chip if they detect it, and they won't even look for it unless the region is Japan.

I have been using SMS Plus for some time now--Awesome.
but I did encounter a problem...ok, I have a master system and all of the trimmings...and in the 3D games if you press the start button it will toggle the game from 3D/single frame and it seems that I can't get the SMS plus to do that. If anyone knows what I am talking about...mostly it happens with Outrun3D and Zaxon3D (cuz those are the games I have.)

Thanx again,

Of my many many game gear roms, maybe 8 or 10 came back as unknown, along with a few "Hack" and also "Homebrew/Demo" those will all still play right? Even the ones listed as unknown (such as the japanese game super kick off)

Slide, the problem is probally that version 1 doesn't support the 3D glasses. The new version does and that brings me to point 2. Someone really need to compile the new source. Pascal didn't find it worth for a new release, but I have it and I think it does deserve a release.

The most important is the really neat autoload feature, call your game boot.sms (for a Master System rom) or boot.gg (for a Game Gear rom) and it ofcourse autoload your game. The nicest thing however is that you can't see that you are running SMS Plus. You can't also go to the main menu. Directly after the Dreamcast has booted you can see your game. It give you the closest feeling of really running a game on a SMS. And if you have set your preferences and saved it to the VMU, the autoloaded game will use that!

SMS Plus has also a very good screen adjustment feature. This is perfected by now displaying the game you are running. Some games are displaying black borders on both sides. You can fill them in with the paint backdrop options in the settings. Or you can now adjust the screen at such a way both borders are not displayed, giving you are completly filled full screen.

I know I saw some other little improvements here and there but can't remember them at the moment. So please can someone compile the new source?

Yep those will probally still play right, but are not supported by the screenshots pack. You can add those by your own or just leave it so you see a standard image in the rom selection menu.

No only the source code of what was becoming SMS Plus 2 is released. But the features I mentioned are in that sourcecode. It just needed to be compiled so we can all use it.

You heard it folks, someone please compile that latest source for SMS Plus. Those unimplemented (from v1) features will continue to "urk" me until they're officially available.
