It's been nearly two months since I decided to use Arctic Silver 5 since things failed in my laptop and forced me into making upgrades that should have happened years ago. Things look good but new questions have been raised. What's a normal, if there is a such thing, idle temp for a laptop based cpu and is there an issue with allowing both laptop fans to constantly run at a slow speed? I will note that I believe the design of the cooling system in this line allows for the gpu heatsink (7950 GTX) to interfere with heat dissipation of the cpu heatsink.
As ambient temperatures fluctuate, my real world results are typically 33°C +/- 2°C at idle, 35°C-45°C under average loads (Windows 7 64-bit), and under full load thermal testing with Prime95 it maxes out at 70°C.
