Dreamcast digital audio mod

Post by Quzar »

Hadn't been posted here, so I figured I'd let ya'll know about it.

Basically, the DC uses an off the shelf DAC for it's audio, which makes it possible to know how to bypass it entirely and just output the digital audio.

You can do it as coax or TOSlink.

Does it make it sound a lot better? Anybody here ever tried it?

I've never seen it reported that anyone but it's creator has done it. It won't specifically make it sound better, but it will ensure that your sound system is getting identical sound to what the dreamcast is outputting. Also, the DC uses a fairly standard run of the mill DAC, where most sound systems (of people who would do this mod) probably have much better DACs in them.

Which is entirely irrelevant - all that stuff happens long before the sound signal is sent to the DAC.
