Noisy Dreamcast - sick of it

Post by Magicbean »

I'm not sure about this, but do all Dreamcasts make the loud buzzing noise? I'm almost sertain that the noise comes from the lazer repositioning itself while it scans for data. And I don't care if this is normal, it's the loudest game system I own, and I would like to quiet it down if there is a fix.
I can't beleive I posted that...

If it is normal, how could there be a fix? You could put a thin layer of cork, and line the whole system inside, which would quiet it down a bit. Otherwise, there would be no fix for it I can think of, and have not seen one.

I have a fix: go play some Xbox 360. Then come back to your DC. It won't seem so noisy anymore.

Grease up the gears on the GD unit if it's coming from it, that's usually the main cause of noise other than the fan

Maybe it's the motor that causes the laser to move. In that case, there could be a way to replace it with a quieter motor. Or like thomas said, line the inside with something.

Louder than normal? cause they are both noisy and problematic as it is. omfg pwn.

the only time my dc made a louder than normal noise was when the gd drive needed service; either replacement; tweaking. etc. Glad you figured out the problem....

probably silicone grease, that's what's used on gears.
