ONLY 68% SPEED?!?!?!?!?!?
i was working really hard to get my smrpg rom to get to work and i had to throw out like 10 cd's on trial and error to get them to work in the dc, but i stared playing and it was going like it did on my old '95 computer.
is there another snes emulator that runs games close to 100% with sound?

The fact you got it to work at all is amazing, last I knew SMRPG didn't work.lamegamefixer wrote:i was working really hard to get my smrpg rom to get to work and i had to throw out like 10 cd's on trial and error to get them to work in the dc, but i stared playing and it was going like it did on my old '95 computer.

By the way, reading the forum rules might be a good idea.
Since one of them is along the lines of "We know DreamSNES isn't fullspeed, we don't need to hear it from you."

The speed is all fine with DSNES v0.98, slow on only a very few games.
Stop opening threads like "68%" speed or other such lies. You can do a milion things to improve the speed.
SMRPG does work btw, but according to Nakamichi's buglist it crashes at a level-up. I can't confirm that but it could be.

Re: ONLY 68% SPEED?!?!?!?!?!?
DreamSNES will run certain games at 100% (or close enough) speed with sound, like Super Mario World and the Donkey Kong games. There are others which run quite close to that with sound and can be made to run at proper speed by disabling the sound. Some games are always slow, though, like Chrono Trigger or the Final Fantasy games.lamegamefixer wrote:is there another snes emulator that runs games close to 100% with sound?

compare ntsc (60htz) and pal (50htz) games,
it can make a big difference to playablity and jerkyness in some games
in my experience.
edit - i had the htz round the wrong way

You and mikozero are both correct - but mikozero is correct that PAL games do run better at DSNES - they're literally fullspeed.Matisfaction wrote:Pal games are something like 17.5% slower than NTSC games, + usually have borders.
Good example: Run a PAL and a US SNES side by side and you'll see a big difference.
All European games like those from Infrogrames (today: Atari), Rare and specially from Nintendo have been speeded up to match the actual game speed (and resized to fill the whole screen) - that's not what SEGA did those days (but did for the Dreamcast) and SONY never did...

true, but this make emulation easier for the dreamcast,Matisfaction wrote:Pal games are something like 17.5% slower than NTSC games, + usually have borders.

for example sometimes the music doesn't skip so much,
which can be good in RPGs where speed isn't essential,
also some games are diffrent from the norm in that they have animation frames removed
and/or are adusted in some way to take the speed diffrence into account.
there by giving you much the same game with as you said about 17.5%
drop in what the DC has to render.
anyway just try it, i spend a while doing loads of testing after i first spotted this opinion and it is imo worth looking at.
edit - sorry i didn't notice the last post

Okay, but imagine that you had to reverse engineer a PC to code for it. Emulator coders get full access to RAM and HD, a DC coder does not.tekkaman1 wrote:Remember that the DC cpu runs at 200mhz. So it's like playing in a pentium 200mhz system.
Bottomline to anybody complaining: Get over it and move on. Coders aren't here for you, they're making these programs out of freewill.
The speed of the Snes emulation on DC is very similar to a pentium 200mhz. I have a P 200mhz and a DC.ace wrote:no, actually it isn't. The hitatchi processor has a completely different way of handling tasks than a pentium does.tekkaman1 wrote:Remember that the DC cpu runs at 200mhz. So it's like playing in a pentium 200mhz system.
