Can someone help me with this Dreamsnes problem(not speed or rom problems)

Post by DarkCloud »

I downloaded the files for version 4 off of the Dreamsnes website...

I used selfboot buddy to burn this thing and had all my roms unzipped and named like Zelda_link_to_the_past.smc. It burned fine and boots as a selfboot cd however after itt gets past the 2 warning screens it tells me that one of my files is damaged and my cd may be scratched...then it loops back to the warning screens and repeats for about 5 times...then it loaded some red garbled graphics and crashed. I only burned 60 roms on the cd and the files were exactly arranged as selfboot buddy said to have them.

This also happened with a selfboot I dlled off this site.

I wanna try this emu(even if just for punchout) and this is frustrating. Can anyone help?

As I stated I have tried a cd image. I've also self booted from plain files.

Each time I get the same error messsage that the files are damaged and my cds may be scratched. It works fine up until after the 2nd warning screen fades. Does anyone know why this is? I have a 1st or 2nd run Dreamcast from when they just came out. It's never been modified as far as I know( I bought it used)

All other emus and games run fine...so i'm pretty sure it aint my cdrom device. It's really starting to get annoying. Is this not a known problem with version 4?

it could be the type of cd your using, or the image/files could be corrupted.

700 MB white Memorex

Same brand I've ussed for DC emus for the last year and they've always worked

The image I used was a Disk Juggler file. I selfbooted with self boot buddy then burned the iso with CDRwin like it says to in the readme using the settings it supplied in the readme in case the dos burning was problematic.

My cdwriter isn't very fancy but it's worked for everything I've thrown at it

Lite On Ltr - 0841 8X 4X 32X

I burned the image and the selfboot at my lowest possible speed.

Any suggestions?

What?

I used the Disc Juggler image with Disc Juggler. It burned fine yet has the problem I listed above.

I used SBBuddy/cdrwin combo with the plain files.

Meaning I burned 2 Dreamsnes cds. 1 that selfbooted yet needed a roms cd(Disc Juggler version) and 1 that selfboots with roms(sbbuddy/cdrwin).

Both gave me the same problem I listed. Both were version 4.

1. Try V.93 maybe you will have better luck.
2. If it still doesn't work try DreamSnes on a different DC. (hopefully it isn't a problem w/your DC, but maybe it is) if it works in a friends DC then your DC is messed up :(

It may be a problem with your CDRs then, I noticed you're using 700 minute disks.

I only say this because yesterday I was playing around with Nester and I found that anytime I burnt stuff onto my PNY 700 minute disks the DC wouldn't use the disc correctly. But when I went back and burnt them onto some generic Ricoh 650 meg disks they worked fine.

I would try version 3 if I could find a place that had the plain files for it...disc images are only used if no other option works. Here, Consolevision, and the main site only has the plain files for version 4.

1. try downloading it from somewhere else, it could be the file.

2. try using different image (nero) (that is if you have 'ahead Nero'
)

3. try tampering with options on the cd writing program. If you use nero, read the tutorial and look at the pics to see if their options matches with yours.

4. test your current ones with other dreamcasts.

5. try and copy it from your mates cd writer.

thats all i could think off
