I was wondering if there is a way to backup my originals and play the copies to preserve the actual discs?

Most Saturn games are pretty damn cheap nowadays, so just buy another copy, unless you got somthin like Raidiant Silvergun or Stellar Assault in your collection?

If people are careful with their disks they won't get ruined.
actually discs have a lifespan just like anything else, I think I heard it was about 20 years

Hmmm....lets see here...I got my NES in December of 1986, that was 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18.....yep 18 years ago. I still buy games for it every weekend and I imagine in 2 more years if I havent collected them all yet, I still will be buying games for it. So, it could happen that in 20 years he will still care about his saturn.

agreed, I have my nes and I am 22! so heh, I pick games up every weekend with a paycheck, I have 200 games and MORE to go, but NES is loved by me in every way. hell I got my SNES in 91 when it was released and I still play the damn thing. I still play the genesis and saturn to, so if you love games and don't seem to stop caring for them, we will be old balls when we stop gaming,lol.l
