Actually, Portal 2 runs much nicer on my comp than TF2 does. Probably due to the number of players.

Got Heavy Rain. Beat Heavy Rain (20hrs). I give it an 8.5/10. I liked it slightly more than LA Noire.

GF just bought a 3DS with Pokemon Black and Ocarina of Time. Personally I'd have waited until the price was lower and there's more of a library available, but she got a substantial gift certificate to a tech outlet for graduation, and had some money left on it after ordering a new laptop.

So, we have a 3DS now.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International (PS3) - $15

Reflecting on this purchase, I'm not sure why I bought it other than it was a cheap PS3 RPG. I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to playing it. Hell, I bought it 4 days ago and it's still sitting in my car.

I bought it for $50 or $60 and still haven't played more than like 20 minutes of it... :? Its pretty much been relegated to the pile of PS3 games that I bought but I'll probably never get around to actually playing (much like Final Fantasy 13).

Went to a flea market and found a vendor that had a binder full of games they were selling for $2 apiece. I picked up:

ATV Off Road Fury 1, 2, and 3 (PS2)
Enter the Matrix (Xbox)
Path of Neo (Xbox)
MDK 2 (PS2)
Fear Effect (PSX)

Nothing especially notable, but I've been having a surprisingly good time playing through Enter the Matrix. I absolutely hated that game back in the day, and now for some reason I really enjoy it. It still looks like a prototype and glitches like crazy, but it's mindlessly fun. That, and it's worth it to finally watch all those movie cutscenes that help flesh out the second movie.

Why is everyone always hating on FF13. I'm actually asking because I've never played it. It's just that from what I've seen, it looks much better than FF12. And let me be honest, I'd rather play Dance Dance Revolution with feet full of blisters than ever pick up FF12 again.

From the about 20 minutes I played of it when I got it, its like running through one really long tunnel. A very pretty tunnel, but still just a tunnel. There's no exploration for most of the game. There's nothing that has made Final Fantasy great in the past.

Correct.

On the contrary, I don't understand the hate towards FF12. It was the first to sport the best formulas of the series in years.... Awesome battle system, and more exploration than any other FF game (besides 11). When it comes to series favorites, it's 6, 7, 8, and 12 for me... coincidentally, in that order.

Because it's not really a game. You are driven down one path with no branches. You fight a set number of enemies in an area with a set amount of experience. And the experience is used to activate a set number of abilities in a set order until you run out of crystals. You only get new crystals when you beat each chapter of the game, meaning you are locked out of leveling up until you advance the story. It's more akin to playing a Shump than an RPG.

Really, the only thing going for it is the fact that it looks absolutely gorgeous. Because that's about all Square is good at these days is making really pretty games.

As for Final Fantasy XII, it is one of the best RPG's ever released on the PS2, and my second favorite Final Fantasy game right behind VII. The biggest problem with XII was that it's extremely long and it takes forever to actually get into the game. I just started playing it again about a month ago and I'm already 60 hours into it again. My last playthrough was 110. But the intro levels are terribly long. They don't even introduce Gambits until the 5 hour mark, which still has you on a linear path. Once you get past those first few areas and actually get into the world, it's amazing. I couldn't believe back then how gigantic of a world Square had created. But I can totally understand why some people hated the game, the first 8 or so hours are too restrictive, which by then many people would have given up on the game.
