Very nice. One of my all-time favorite RPGs
Isn't it a great game? I've played it through on emulators so many times, but the cart is worth owning out of respect.
Indeed. I was lucky enough to pick it up on clearance at K-mart in the late 90s for like $30 brand new.

I never actually played the game while it was current. I originally played Mario RPG when it came out on Virtual Console, and then again last year when a friend sold me his cartridge.

I never liked JRPGs as a kid, and didn't really warm to the genre until college. I ended up getting really sick and spending a week in bed in 2003; I'd recently bought a Dreamcast with a few games and accessories on eBay, and one of the games it came with happened to be Grandia II. When I got sick, it was the only one of my games I hadn't beaten yet... and I didn't really have the energy for the sort of reflex-based platformers and action games I normally played anyway. So, I gave it a shot.

Funny story: I didn't realize you could swap the mana eggs around OR upgrade the spells and special moves until over halfway through the game. Compared to what I'd been doing, the game felt like a cakewalk after that :P

As for new purchases:

Runbow (Wii U)

Undertale (Mac)

and...

Darkwing Duck (NES)

It's been on my list for quite a while, and I finally found a copy at an acceptable price. I'm nearly done with my NES list, with a few ultra-rarities that I don't ever expect to find at a price I'm willing to pay. I'll probably move on to the Genesis next, since most of the stuff left on my SNES list is too expensive.

I've actually never played Grandia or Grandia II

I do own it though... Two copies actually...

Grandia II's battle system is still one of my all-time favorites... but the story is EVERY ANIME/JRPG TROPE EVER and the game is definitely on the easy side if you actually know what you're doing. Definitely worth playing, though.

Grandia has a better story and slightly more original characters, but it feels really clunky in comparison to II.

Grandia X is way too repetitive and Grandia III took all the wrong lessons from Final Fantasy X.

I was planning to not buy any new games, just clear my backlog and wait for Fallout 4, then I somehow bought Metal Gear Solid 5 and the physical version of Brothers for PS4.
I'm not even sure how it happened.

MGSV is well worth it though. Stunning game. Took me a while to get into it and it's not without its flaws but there's so much great gameplay packed in there. Reckon it's a toss-up between this, Witcher 3 and Life is Strange for GOTY.

I'm looking forward to Fallout 4 but there's so many content-rich open-world games these days that I think Bethesda really need to up their game. Skyrim was amazing, but it suffered from the many of the same faults that have existed since Morrowind and with each passing year they get more and more difficult to forgive.

Pre-ordered the Special edition of Life is Strange which comes out early next year, heard nothing but good things but held out for a physical version.
Picked up Tearaway for £15 on Amazon's Black Friday deal. Again, always wanted to play it, looks like my sort of thing.
All of this is irrelevant as I'll be organising my mounting pile of clutter in Fallout 4 for several years.

Just bought Okami for PS2. wanted it for a while.. Its an amazing game.. but the annoying little thing that follows you around almost ruins the game. Also, they do the 'Windwaker' dialogue sound effects thing, where instead of actual voices they have 3-4 sounds tht repeat when they are talking. The delay between the noises was done well in windwaker, but its over the top in this game. I actually have to mute it during long dialogues because it drives me crazy.

Didn't buy this technically but picked it up today. It's by the Stanley Parable guy, it's got voiceover by Simon Amstell, it's only half an hour long, plays well on relatively shit computers, and it's FREE. GOGOGO.

Got Rayman Legends and Mario Maker for Christmas. Also, Eva stopped at GameStop while we were grocery stopping, because they were having a B2G1 sale, and came out with (for herself) Rune Factory, Shadows of Mordor, and (for me) inFamous: Second Son.

Currently about a third of the way through Rayman, and while I realize I'm a few years late to the party, it's a LOT of fun. It doesn't really do too much new that wasn't already in Origins, but more of the same isn't a negative when "the same" is such a strong starting point.
