Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
UPDATE 1
OK I cheated a bit and started Bully a week ago. Just finished the final mission. Not going to bother with the extras. It's one of the oldest games on my list and a terrible port job if I'm honest. It has a good sense of humour, but when you strip down GTA open-worlding to schoolboy antics it was all a bit repetitive in the end.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
I really should do the same, I've got a pile of untouched games that are begging for attention, but to chime in with some unsolicited thoughts on your pile:
- I wholeheartedly recommend you jump on Fez as a priority as it's easily in my top 3 things of that generation.
- If you want one you can clear quickly, MGS: GZ is brief but satisfying, especially if you don't bother with all of the extras.
- Shovel Knight is also really good and doesn't outstay it's welcome.
- New Super Mario Bros 2 I would put on the low priority pile, it's really shit.
- Mario & Luigi Dream Team is a real grind, it drags early on and never really gets better, it also looks pretty hideous.
- If you're considering ever getting a Wii U, maybe wait on Wind Waker, the HD remake fixes almost all of the failings of the game and it is utterly gorgeous. The SD version gets to be a bit of a ball ache towards the end and the photo collecting game is way less fun.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
I can say that I enjoyed all of these very much myself (although, I haven't finished ToS on the PS3, I have played through it several times on the Gamecube).Specially Cork wrote:Name: Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia

One warning about Ar tonelico II... There's a pretty nasty bug with one boss near the end of the game in the US and European releases. You have to finish the boss off before it uses a certain move, or the game will crash when it does so. There are patches out there to fix the bug if you have a hard drive in your PS2 though (and have the means to run Open PS2 Loader or something of that sort).
Also, If you enjoy the first two Ar tonelico games, I do recommend you pick up the third one for the PS3 as well (and the new sorta related game Ar nosurge also). Of course, that would be a bit contrary to the purpose of this list to suggest new games, but whatever.

Shovel Knight is my favorite single-player game of 2014.not just souLLy now wrote:Shovel Knight is also really good and doesn't outstay it's welcome.
It's also 33% off in the eShop right now, for both Wii U and 3DS ($10, usually $15)

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
Alright, to save myself from burning through all the short games really quickly then having the obvious dredge through all the RPGs on there, I'm working through a couple of JRPGs now and will use a short game if/when I need a break.
I'm a few hours into both Tales of Xillia and Final Fantasy X so those are my two mains, with Shovel Knight and Ground Zeroes first up as the short ones.
Also, Dragon Quest VIII is an interesting experiment as I'm not playing the PS2 version, but rather the iPhone port. I know it's a very, very long adventure and I piss away a lot of my time with casual phone games so I'm going to keep diving into that instead when I'm out and about.
It's also worth noting I dip into Animal Crossing somewhat regularly, maintain a Final Fantasy XIV subscription, have a full-time job, a son, and a pregnant wife.
But, I'm not trying to race through this list as quickly as possible, I'm just spending my gametime on what I have over the next 12 months, with the end goal of saving a few hundred dollars and being able to put it toward something better.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
We've got quite a bit of a backlog as well. Here's my list for what I want to get through this year*:
* indicates a game that was started but set aside before completion
1. Bayonetta (Wii U) - current project
2. *Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)
3. Lost in Shadow (Wii)
4. Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2)
5. *Battle Kid 2: Mountain of Torment (NES)
6. Metroid Prime 3 (Wii) - may lead to replaying the full Prime series
7. *Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (PS3) - got 3/4 of the way through on my old PS3 before it died. Haven't had the heart to start over.
8. *Uncharted 2 (PS3)
9. *Retro City Rampage (3DS)
10. New Super Luigi U (Wii U)
11. *Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA)
12. *GunLord (Dreamcast)
13. *Pandora's Tower (Wii)
14. *Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3)
Those are the ones I want to complete this year for sure. If I get through the list quickly enough, I'll add some more titles... but I'm not assuming I'll have time for more than about a game per month.

I can vouch for Fez. Brilliant art style, very atmospheric and peaceful. It is really a memorable game. Had it on X360 initially and currently have it for PC.not just souLLy now wrote:- I wholeheartedly recommend you jump on Fez as a priority as it's easily in my top 3 things of that generation.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
Yeah, most of my list probably isn't going to get touched this year, but I'm just being honest with myself. There's some games in that list that are very low priority. Even at an average of a game every 4 weeks (seems about right), there's over 5 years of gaming there.

That is a huge list! Your idea or playing a few lighter shorter games in the middle of the longer RPGs is brilliant.
My list for this year is:
Oregon trail (appleII ver)
Silent hill 1
Zelda Awakening
Survival Kids

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
I really need to stop buying games and finish the ones I've got. Steam library is sitting at 350 games last I recall, only 60 of which I've beaten . Seems I've got more money than time.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
OK Checking In.
Good news, the only game I've bought so far this year is Majora's Mask, which I already made an exception for as I've been meaning to beat it for the last 15 years so whatever. Of course, I'm not aware of any other good games that have come out so far, but that might also be good news because I'm just not following gaming news and refuse to buy a new console.
I'm slowly working on Zelda alongside Pokemon Omega Ruby.
I'm done with Tales of Xillia. I didn't bother finishing the last 10% of it and watched the conclusion on Youtube. It's probably the dullest Tales game I've played gameplay wise plus I think I've just moved on from the series as it's all bit too anime for me now (I gave up all that a few years ago).
I finished the Far Cry 4 campaign. Loads of extras not done, but they don't interest me. I enjoyed it more than FC3 because I preferred the setting.
Final Fantasy X is still a work in progress. It's my favourite game of all time and I have no intention of just pushing through it.
Bad news...I've picked up a habit of wasting loads of time playing casual games on my iPhone. I stuck a PSP emulator and a copy of Persona 3 on there to try and remedy this.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
I started playing Twilight Princess (GC version) a few weeks ago in an attempt to whittle down my own backlog, fantastic game which I'm really enjoying. I'd even go as far as snapping up the rumored HD version on the Wii U and playing through it again.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
Curse you for bumping this!
Ermmm yeah...I bought a PS4 with Witcher 3, then Rocket League came out before I'd finished, then my wife bought me a load of back catalogue games for my birthday, then MGSV came out, then Uncharted Collection, Ass Creed, Tales of Xillia...
...then everyone started raving about Life is Strange so I picked that up, then someone pointed out Driveclub and all the DLC was $20 so I got that, and everyone at work started playing WWE2K16 so I got that too
At some point I picked up Last of Us Remastered and GTAV despite beating them both already.
...then I had some credit left over on my PSN account so got Spelunky.
...and Walking Dead Season 2 was free on PSN, so I picked up the first Season 2.
and why did I buy Dragon Quest Heroes? Who knows
Oh yeah and now I'm playing Fallout 4. Great.
So yeah total fucking fail. I've not come close to beating any of them.
I didn't buy anything else for my 3DS so I guess that's a plus? And I'm emulating stuff on my iPhone and getting through older games that way. I'm just about to beat Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

Re: Boney's Backlog - 2015
I couldn't even imagine buying another system, I've still got a few Gamecube games to cross off my list
I seemed to be in a loop of Twilight Princess, NHL Hitz 2003 and Burnout 2, I then managed to clear Burnout 2 and dove straight into Burnout 3 for the xbox.

Everyone in my office is a huge gamer and was raving about Witcher 3. I just couldn't resist anymore.
I like the idea of patient gaming, but getting caught up in the hype and being able to chat about the latest games with your mates or online is half the fun really.

It's fun, but Thousand Year Door is better and more polished. The series seems to hit diminishing returns after that.Matisfaction wrote:Picked up Paper Mario (N64), never played it before, been on it solid for the last two days.
