Best Quake port?

Talk about Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, or other DC first person shooting game ports and mods for those games in here.

Best Quake port?

Post by Stryfe »

Can someone help me out with a couple questions?

I'm looking into building an emulator/game standalone disc with the full version of Quake. What are all of my options? And what is considered the best port?

The ones I've tried:

QuakeDC
makaqu

I truly prefer makaqu. It's not 3D accelerated (QuakeDC is), but it has more options, mod possibilities and less bugs. And it's an open source engine, while QuakeDC is a leaked, WinCE based app.

I ended up downloading both recommendations, but before I burn any discs anymore, I like to test them out in emulators.

Loading up a CDI image of QuakeDC hosted at Dcevolution in NullDC get's me nothing. I'm also getting a insert disc message from makaqu even though all the required files are there.

Does anyone know how to test a Quake disc before burning, or am I doing something wrong?
