I'm not sure if it was really released. I searched in many DC iso sites and none of them had it.

I'm only interested in finding it in the net because it's impossible to find it in stores, because Sierra didn't release it :| .

Also it's possible that they changed some things in the game to make it impossible to run PC mods. That's what usually happens with computer  console ports.

Since HL doesn't have a scripting language, like Quake does, you'd be limited to changing the maps, graphics and sounds only.

I highly doubt it since valve changed the engine considereably in the area's of maps and models so that it would work on the Dreamcast.

I just looked at the contents of the folder, and much to my surprise I found a file called map cycle and it listed the following:

undertow
snark_pit
boot_camp
lambda_bunker
datacore
stalkyard

Could this mean what I think it means? :P

Also, just about everything such as maps appear to be stuffed into .wad files. The only directory that exists in the valve folder is save. There also appears to be a pak0.pak in the barney and valve directory. I'm not familiar with half life or quake modding though so I'm not sure what to make of all of it. There appears to be a lot of interesting files in it uncluding those multiplayer maps, sound files, and player models.

That's kinda like the PC version. But, since we aren't even supposed to have it, we shouldn't really discuss it that much here.

hmm this buisness of not talking about things is annoying really, i mean yes what was done was very naughty but then again, the release will never see the light of day on the Dreamcast. So nobody is losing money unlike the Segagen thing. I actually look on this in the same light as the original QuakeDC when that was released.

I wonder if a version came out with shareware wads in it, would the creators of Half Life mind?

What we do have to remember is that nO money Commercially will be made so its in a bit of a grey area.

if anyone can email either the people who ported this or the original makers of Half Life to get their opinions i would be interested.

You never get anywhere withhout asking

Yes, but if someone downloads the DC version for free, they're less likely to go out and buy the PC or PS2 version.

I've been (am still a little) sick so I havent been up for coming online and doing my job here... I'm kinda iffy on what I should do with this topic. According to the strictest interpretations of the rules this topic should be closed. But considering Wraggster is an admin and is saying he doesnt think its all that bad I'll leave it open. For now at least.

I do request that links to get it and such are not given here.

As for mods being ported... I've never attempted to mod Half-Life (for PC) but I do know its game data is stored in a .dll. With most games that use .dll files they must be compiled spacific for each processor and OS it is intended to run on. So if Halflife for DC doesnt have the game data compiled right into the engine (which is another possibility) then the mods data has to be edited to be compiled for the SH4 processor with whatever other changes it would need to work with the DC engine.

Yes, Half Life does support PC Console commands, although I don't know enough about them to do anythign nifty except switch maps and get all weapons. Its a ripped copy of a WinCE beta sent out. The Katana build was supposed to be the final version that was to be released and would run at solid 30 fps.

im not admin :)

But there is always a time for decent discussion on a subject that is interesting, just as Boob! left that Bleemcast Hacking subject open then we should as long as warezers dont get involved leave this open.

There are points good and bad, and we all know the bad but this release is similiar to Titaniums DCQuake release in the fact that it is an unreleased product.

Infact i would say that because of the frenzy involved surrounding this game, that it may be of interest to those developing it and you never know they may actually release it.

It appears that another version of Half Life was released on the 15th. This on is 30 20 Mb files. Perhaps its the Katana version or maybe just a repack of the other one.
