I don't think Nintendo makes "kiddie" games, but their kid-oriented friend code system needs to be thrown overboard (at least for adults).

Hmm... I'll just list a few systems. Odyssey 2/Videopac - Air-Sea Battle PC - Probably some text-based games... The earliest graphical game I can remember playing is Alley Cat. Does anyone remember the name of the text-based action game that had you as the smiley character going through a large maze...

I would be willing to give out ideas for chess boards for the game, but I'm an artist/story teller, so it's about if you need ideas for boards and artististc concepts for the game. I appreciate the offer, but we have no need for ideas and concepts at this time. The DreamChess project has been put o...

If the obstacles are static and don't overlap it's relatively easy to implement true pathfinding.

Unfortunately Unreal Tournament was taken off line a few years ago. Oh yes, unless you have Windows 98, no matter what you do you can't get Windows XP to pick up the line. The easiest way to make the connection is to use a device which allows you to hook up multiple phones and make calls between th...

Re: Wii shortages

I don't know why you're surprised about this. There hasn't been a single period in the last 2 decades where Nintendo have cared properly for the European market. I've never bought a Nintendo console at launch before, so I wouldn't know... Anyway, I picked up a Wii today, finally. The store I went t...

That seems to be common practice over here as well.

I ordered a Wii on december 6 I believe (a few days before the release date), but haven't heard anything yet. I also put in another order at a store here in Spain last week. They told me I was 40th in line on the order list (which doesn't seem too bad) and that they'd be getting new Wiis on the 26th...

If they didn't meet the equilibrium then it's not a big deal Sure, for a short period of time following the release... but retailers over here are telling customers they have to wait not days, not weeks, but months... and in the meantime I see all those Zelda games sitting on store shelves... Sorry...

I'm in Spain right now, actually, but here the situation is the same as in The Netherlands.

So are you saying that in the U.S.A. you can now just go into a store and pick up a Wii from the shelves?

Wii shortages

I've been trying to get a Wii for a few weeks now, with no luck whatsoever. Today I tried a store I hadn't been to yet, and they told me they wouldn't get new Wii consoles until March... yes... MARCH. So how long will these shortages last? It looks like it'll be at least 3 more months. Obviously, so...

It's possible that Nintendo is insisting that the friend code system be used.

I'm waiting for the region lock to be broken to see if I have to import a system or if the Pal console will be able to play imports Wii/GC and also VC imports. I can't stand playing games running at 50Hz. Many PAL GC games support 60Hz and some are even 60Hz only. I would be surprised if the Wii wa...

I've had some issues with standard file descriptors on GP32 as well. I fixed it there by calling newlib's init routine manually: __sinit(_impure_ptr);

There's probably no relation to the DC issue though, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

For HTML editing I use Quanta.

For programming I use kdevelop, but I only use it as an editor, so I may as well use kate.

I do use automake though, I can't imagine writing portable software without it.
