Yeah, Sony pads always felt a bit wrong to me. It's like they wanted to clone the SNES pad, but needed to add their own special fuckups in order to own it. Also, I noticed that newer DS2 pads seem to feel a bit cheaper than the old ones. It might just be my imagination, I guess.

IIRC, it would more likely piggyback onto the Flash chip rather than the BIOS ROM, since you want a Flash pinout and not a mask ROM pinout (they're usually different because of /WE vs. an extra address pin).
