A Quick Statement Regarding the News of the Day
I just wanted to address my friends here and say that I am deeply saddened and appalled at the charges which have been filed against former director of the Fogle Foundation. I am cooperating with the authorities completely in this matter. Please don't rush to judgement just because you saw a big whi...

Re: Pirate Bay Sold, Will Become "Legitimate" Business
I guess I just mean that trackers are clearly evolving. Surely you can see how much of an improvement the separation of tracker and .torrent search engine is for this whole scene. And of course it is ultimately in our best interest to not have 80% of public tracking performed by a single group.

Re: Pirate Bay Sold, Will Become "Legitimate" Business
At least two scalable, open, and free alternatives have emerged already against the TPB tracker. Each of these trackers share a minimal public appearance, and neither acts as a search engine for a torrent's contents or title. Basically, they're untouchable unless the protocol is made illegal. I real...

Recycling caps and reiststors
I'm modding one of my guitar pedals but right now I'm farming a couple of old tape decks for resistors and capacitors, is this a bad idea? I'm new to this stuff--don't feel like going to Radio Shack today.

Re: Psychiatrists: Bitterness Is Mental Illness
Have you ever thumbed through the DSM? It's the little black book of psychological disorders. It's crazy, including things like erectile dysfunction and sibling rivalry as disorders (what siblings do you know who don't have SR?). I gave a presentation in high school about the overdiagnosis problem i...

I hate when people mix up symbols and metaphors that serve people's social, psychological, and cosmological impulses with arguable, testable scientific evidence and theories.

Re: Warner Bros. Will Exchange HD-DVDs for Blu-Rays
I was gonna add into that, but forgot: how many combo LD/DVD players have you seen? There are quite a few, but they're quite expensive both because of the tech required as well as the niche-ness of them which forces them into the domain of the videophile. I'm not sure on the numbers, but I'd wager ...

Re: Movies Worth Owning in High Definition
IIRC, Kubrick often shot in 4:3 because he foresaw the home video phenomenon as the future of film distribution and experience. He never intended the movies to be cropped to 16x9 (I think much of the cinematography in his 4:3 films will back me up on this). I guess he didn't realize we would all hav...
