VMS CRC
(Originally posted over at ASSEMbler, but since the thread received nearly 2000 views and no replies, I think it's safe to say no one knows over there.) The official VMU PDF states the following (emphasis mine): When a file is saved by using the backup utility function "buMakeBackupFileImage()&...

Re: Load ELF/BIN NullDC 1.04 For Debug / Testing
@Protofall - Wanting to use ELF vs CDI comes down to not wanting to have to repackage all of my assets over and over again for quick tests. With NullDC, I can provide the ELF, then specify a CDI containing all of the assets separately. That method is similar to how I use the official SDK / Dev.Box. ...

Load ELF/BIN NullDC 1.04 For Debug / Testing
I jumped through the hoops of creating a syscalls.bin and IP file hoping it would solve the issue of not being able to load an ELF/BIN, but now I'm just getting NullDC to freeze at the "SEGA" license screen after the swirl animation. I'm trying to load 2ndmix.elf (the KOS demo). I even tri...

Re: Dream On Contest: Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Dreamcast - 1st place will be professionally pressed on CD
After a month with no updates here or on the official page, etc, I take it it's safe to assume this competition has been abandoned by its creator? I was hoping to start at the beginning of this month to see what I could build in two months time, but with no guaranteed prize incentive, I think I'll h...

Re: Dream On Contest: Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Dreamcast - 1st place will be professionally pressed on CD
How does the first place prize work in determining how many disc case artworks are printed and discs pressed? Will the winner's submission be printed / pressed all at once up to a set number of discs or will costs for printing / pressing be covered in perpetuity for as long as the game is sold as an...

Re: Replacement hardware for the Katana devkit
Update: Windows 98SE was installed on a laptop (no VM). ASPI 4.71 was installed and when the USB2Xchange was attached, it was recognized by Windows and the downloaded drivers installed without issue. DCCAP.EXE worked as expected and captured a screenshot from the Dev.Box. Both the D.A. and GD-M test...

Re: Replacement hardware for the Katana devkit
T_chan, I've been using two active terminators on the Dev.Box from the beginning. I haven't tried one device on the chain, but that's a good idea. The odd thing is that Codescape seems to work great, which I would have thought would have been the problem application since it's constantly polling the...

Re: Replacement hardware for the Katana devkit
T_chan, yes, both show up correctly and Windows even tries to find a driver for it, which I choose to ignore since there isn't one. I found someone else who was trying to use the USB2Xchange with a non-gaming related device and they too couldn't get it to work with ASPI on an NT kernel OS (2000/XP)....

Re: Replacement hardware for the Katana devkit
The USB2Xchange has been tested with a Set 5 Dev.Box and these are the results: Windows 98SE : This OS was avoided because it lacks native support for USB 2.0 (what the USB2Xchange is). It is, however, possible to get USB 2.0 support in a Virtual Box environment using these drivers. There may be bet...

Re: Replacement hardware for the Katana devkit
I can confirm that the Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460 PCMCIA also works and is a great option for people with laptops that have a PCMCIA slot. Note: be sure to get the 'D' revision as it comes with the correct HD50 cable. You can tell which is the right one because on the front of the box it says "With ...

The copyright is inferred. "Copyright © 1999", then below that it gives a "written by" and an e-mail address. Since the e-mail address is SEGA's, it's safe to conclude the copyright is SEGA's since the program's author is most likely a SEGA employee.

Re: Dreamcast Downloadable Demo Available of Saber Rider
For those interested, save a CD and run it in NullDC. If you watched the promo YouTube video, this is all it is. It's a 10 second slide show with music in the background and a star icon that appears on the VMU screen. There is no playable content.

Re: Testing Marcus Comstedt's dc-virtcd
I compiled it with Cygwin and Windows sees that it's trying to access the network, but it just shows a black screen in the console when run, so it might not be working. Also, if anyone else gets an address error on the Dreamcast when sending the Dreamcast program, you need to upgrade your version of...

Fackue's Bin Checker Program (BIN type question)
Is there a version less than 2.0.4 available anywhere (ideally 2.0.3a) ? The program has a feature to convert between types of BINs (scrambled / unscrambled, etc), however the "convert" option is never selectable (the button is always disabled). My reason for needing this app is because I ...

Re: READ THIS. IMPORTANT DREAMCAST 2 NEWS.
SEGA announced today that it has decided to enter the motion-based control market with the announcement of the Dreamcast 2. Using the excess Dreameye cameras not sold during the original Dreamcast's heyday, SEGA plans to implement a Sony Move-esq control scheme by attaching LEDs on top of the Twin S...

It's not structured nicely for implementing it into a custom layout, though . Maybe have either a separate status.php like status_xml.php that gives the status in a parsed format like XML or heck, even URL encoded.

Congratulations on the milestone, Boney. Admittedly, most of those posts are why I check this site daily. To commemorate the occasion, I'll show some of the artwork I put together a few months ago for your "Boney's Text Adventure" game post. I started to turn it into an actual Dreamcast ga...

Codebreaker code format
I've worked with the PSO codebreaker stuff in the past, so I have some basic knowledge on the format, but is there a document or guide anywhere detailing the other types of functions the code headers can perform for the version of CB the DC uses? Also, how are the "check" values calculated...
