you can solder a wire onto the green part, and then just run the other end to a known ground.

You cant just plug something into a USB port. It requires special communication protocals and drivers on the PC side to operate. Unlike serial cables which just use analoge clock signals, USB uses digital signals to achieve a higher bandwidth. THis requires special hardware on both ends to work.

If you dont mind a little soldering you can pick up ribbon cable at allelcetronics.com and use it to extend your conrtoler ports. Thats probably the best bet seeing as how you never know what your gonna get when you canabalize a printer or something simmilar. Im also a little leary of just taping se...

Sorry to keep posting, but it works again. I just took out my VGA box and the video worked once again. I have no idea what was wrong, but i assume that i had put the thing togther wrong or something wasnt fitting right due to the added ribbon cable.

When i boot with a game it just displays the logo like normal, goes to the set time page, and then goes black. SO i dont think its the disk. I might of not put the shield back in right and its over heating, but i havent take much of a better look at it yet.

The problem isnt the harddrive or cd drive, those can both be replaced by laptop equilivents. The hardest parts of this will be the powersupply, cooling, and size. If you have ever seen in internals of an Xbox, the mobo isnt exactly small, nor does it match any form factor ive ever seen. You will ne...

This is probably another stupid question (especialy coming from someone who is studying to be an electrical engineer) but all the caps i canabalized are electrolytic and the schematics dont mention polarity; does it matter? Ive noticed in pictures of other vga boxes that they use the same kind of ca...

I had another question for those who have made the VGA boxes. THe schematic on devcast has a 74HCT244; and as far as i can tell it just processes the horzontal and vertical synchronization signals. I saw another that forwent the IC entirely. Is the IC needed, and is there any benifit/loss from its u...

It may sound all good and well, but the PS2 and the dream cast controler communicate with their respective consoles with diffrent propritary communication protcals; you cant just solder the ps2 receiver to the controler board in the DC. You have a "controler adapter" in your picture, which...

the easiest thing to do is to fill in the indentions where it says dell, and paint something new over it. THe best stuff i have found for filling things like that is a two part clay that you can get at the better hobby shops. Use just enough, sand it smooth, and paint it however you want.

You have to be carefull when you use those EL strips. My roommate tried to install one to backlight his TR707 LCD, but it just didnt work. The polarization of the lcd blocked out the light. The leds are also a bad choice since they dont provide even lighting. Your idea for the EL wire might work, if...

The dreamcast default outputs an analog signal, since at the time digital out wasnt even arround in home televisions. Only recently witht the xbox360 are we seeing digital output stock on a console. That being said, we can look at what the dreamcast is capable of outputting. We all know that stock c...
