Bleemcast MGS - problem running 2nd disc ???

I have Bleemcast MGS and like most of my Dreamcast games, I am far from completing it. I have read that some people had problems running the 2nd disc of MGS with Bleemcast. I guess the MGS 2nd disc would see the MGS save file on the VMU as corrupt which would make the game impossible to finish. Is t...

Well actually 22W for an hour would be 22 Wh or Watt hours. 22 Watts is the average power consumption.

It sounds like you might have the laser transport flex cable problem. Follow the instructions in my "Boulevard of Broken Dreamcasts" post and you may be able to get your DC up and working again.

The amount of space sucked up by the ECC code is actually 13-14%. However, that is only the overhead space. In other words, that 13-14% is not original data in any form. It's just the data codes used to help correct read errors by finding the redundantly coded original data. A much larger part of th...

Uh.... what the?.... These are clearly very real, as in not just renderings, but what I can't figure out is who did this or why? The designs are very well done and some like the XBOX version actually required new molded shells for the DC and the controller. Why would somebody go to all that trouble?...

I have no idea why this thread has lasted this long... As sixteen-bit and others have mentioned, it's not about debris, static or anything other than HEAT!!!!! Yes, there are probably many people who get away with running their DC's right there on the deep pile shag they have in the living room. How...

I was of course just kidding...

You just described the essence of most liquid cooling systems whether they're based on Liquid N, freon, helium, etc. Condensation - Evaporation - Condensation - and so on. The Carnot cycle. Another useless bit of trivia provided by Pong. :-)

If you want to drive speakers with this portable amp it's going to take something more than just a couple of opamps. Opamps are usually just used as a preamp stage for the output stages of an amplifier. They aren't designed to drive a low impedance load like a speaker directly. On top of that, the g...

sorewinner, I can't quote the exact usable/total data ratio, but I think you're close. Many people assume that the laser is capable of reading past dust, scratches and other problems on or below the surface of the disk. Actually, the laser can't reliably read past anything like that which is why the...

Why do you need more liquid nitrogen every so often? Liquid nitrogen stays ice cold all the time even when it's in a pressurized container. I've seen references to this fact in several reputable action movies.

Sub Woofer,

You may want to add my "Boulevard of Broken Dreamcasts" posting to this FAQ as it's the only I've seen that mentions retensioning the laser transport flex cable for DC's that don't recognize any disc.

Take into account that just adding a fan to the case can actually make things worse. I know this doesn't seem obvious but it can. The intake and exhaust of the design must match (CFM) or you have problems. Far better than adding a fan which could just end up cavitating and cause heat buildup, you co...

See my post "The Boulevard of Broken Dreamcasts...". Sounds like you inadvertantly fixed the bad flex-cable connection problem that seems to be an issue with DC's. If the flex cable does not make good connections with the lased transport assembly, then the DC will act just as yours did. Sc...

Before doing this, consider that NEON lights are virtual noise broadcasting stations. You run the risk of making your DC unstable because you may drastically increase the electrical noise floor on the internal circuit boards. Also, neon will add even more heat to a design that is somewhat thermally ...

Sorewinner, Actually there DOESN'T have to be anything that allows the laser to focus on smaller tracks to read GDROM's. As MidnightObsidian suggested, the only difference is in the GDROM firmware. Otherwise, it's a standard 12X CDROM drive. What most people don't know about CDROM's is that they act...

Those CR2032's are very common. You should be able to find them at many grocery stores even. I bought my last set at Publix! Don't risk your Saturn for that. I have two Saturn's. The batteries last about two years and Lithium cells won't leak ACID all over the place when they are completely drained....

The Boulevard of Broken Dreamcasts... and how to fix them.

Hey Everybody, I'm new here. I'm amazed nobody else had picked the username Pong. Since I actually had a home Pong console it seemed like a good name. Anyhow, I'm sure this board has it's share of members with broken DC's just like ALL the other DC boards. So, here's my first contribution to the for...
