SPACE CHANNEL 5 Promotion ROM (J) [610-7368]

Post by majorpbx »

I have this promotional release of Space Channel 5, it has "promotion rom" on a side of the package. The package is a weird multi-unfold item that I managed to find online. Not sure why the picture referenced below is mostly pink as mine is mostly orange in color. I'll look into scanning the case and disk, though the case will be difficult for sure.

Actually I was aware of this as I have collected some pictures of it during my online adventures. Attaching the pictures I have found, as they are decent quality. It appears to have been released in both pink and orange, not totally sure if the disc is the same as resolution of the pic doesn't allow for a clear view of codes etc, but looks pretty much similar to me.

Thanks for the submission!

OK, I am now able to provide more information. 8)

The pink multi-fold item as seen on the left of the first picture I posted before is the notorious "Mexican Flyer" Mil-CD.
If you squint hard enough, you will see some traces of the titles of the two tracks on the bottom left. Unreadable here, but it says:
Track 1: Mexican Flyer (original) - Ken Woodman & his picadilly brass
Track 2: Mexican Flyer remix - Dr.Pris Dr. Rachael
This text of course does not exist on the orange version!
Although this disc is frequently referred to as "Space Channel 5 Ulala the Movie", this title is nowhere to be found on the covers or the disc and therefore I would recommend calling it "Space Channel 5 Theme Music - Mexican Flyer". This is a Mil-CD as I already said.

You say that the orange disc with the same cover design as the pink is the demo you dumped.

I got this demo too, but mine came in a plain jewel case with a printed "How to Play" cover, exactly as seen on the right of the first picture and bottom right of the second one. It doesn't mention "Promotion ROM" anywhere, unlike yours and has just the small "Taikenban" logo under the 9 (left side of the disc).
Looks like there are 2 different releases of this demo, a "plain" one and a "more frills" version. :)

My dump fully matched the checksums you are posting and has the same code on disc and same ringcode.
Thank you majorpbx for helping verify one more rare Taikenban disc. :D

PS: another "interesting" aspect of this demo disc is that selecting "Options" leads to a 3D model of Ulala, dancing to the classic tune. You are able to zoom in/out, rotate etc. But you are also able to take an upskirt look if you wish.
She does wear panties though.

We don't share any copyrighted material here.

This disc was verified and entered into TOSEC dats as "Space Channel 5 Taikenban v0.203 (1999)(Sega)(JP)[!][AKA Space Channel 5 Promotion ROM]"
If you search for that term exactly, there are other places on the internet you might find the corresponding dump.
